Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Supervisor to lead Receipt Inspection personnel supporting Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNS), a NAVSEA field activity responsible for Naval Nuclear Submarine maintenance and modernization. The QA Supervisor serves as the on-site lead for contractor personnel and acts as the primary liaison between contractor inspectors and PNS Government supervisors. This position requires deep technical inspection expertise, strong leadership capability, and disciplined oversight within a highly regulated environment.
This is a hands-on leadership role within a secure shipyard facility.
Key Responsibilities
The QA Supervisor will:
- Provide direct supervision of Receipt Inspectors
- Ensure compliance with NAVSEA material control and certification standards
- Verify inspectors are fully qualified and certified prior to task assignment
- Oversee precision measurement, inspection, and certification activities
- Manage daily work assignments across ships, shops, and shifts
- Coordinate shift-to-shift execution and workload balancing
- Ensure adherence to safety and radiological requirements
- Manage timekeeping, attendance, overtime selection, and workforce discipline
- Resolve personnel issues (conflict resolution, performance concerns, corrective actions)
- Serve as liaison between contractor workforce and PNS supervisors
- Participate in government status meetings
- Validate inspection metrics and ensure minimum productivity requirements are met
- Ensure all inspection records are complete, accurate, and audit-ready
The Supervisor must be reachable during all assigned shift hours and identify backup leadership coverage when absent.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must have:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in precision measurement and machined parts inspection
- Demonstrated supervisory experience in an industrial, shipyard, nuclear, or defense manufacturing environment
- Proven experience with precision inspection techniques, hardness testing, surface finish measurement, material verification (acid spot, magnet, XRF, LIBBS), and optical comparator and surface plate inspection setups
- Experience inspecting and certifying material in accordance with NAVSEA standards, including NAVSEA 0948-LP-045-7010 (Material Control), NAVSEA SS800-AG-MAN-010/P-9290 (Deep Submergence Systems), and NAVSEA T9044-AD-MAN-010(Submarine Fly-By-Wire Systems)
- Experience with L1 certification of Marotta and Vacco reducing manifolds, fasteners underSystem 21 and 22 gaging requirements, welding commodities and mill product inspections, and MIL-STD-792 marking methods
- OSHA safety training and certification
- Active DoD clearance (Secret or higher required)
- U.S. Citizenship required
